
A blue screen occurs when windows detect such an error that cannot be solved on their own. This results in the blue screen saying "Your PC ran into a problem and needs a restart ...."
Reasons behind the occurrence of Blue Screen error
There are various reasons which result in a blue screen. Microsoft has configured each and every Windows version in such a way that whenever it detects any kind of unsolvable error, it displays this blue screen that draws the user's attention to the PC\Laptop. It is shown to the user in order to avoid any huge problems in the system in the future. In most cases, Windows successfully troubleshoot and remove the blue screen error on its own.
It can occur at any time and will ask the user to restart the system. But after restarting the system, the error is shown again resulting in a reboot loop. It can occur due to hardware or software issues or due to a virus attack. There are thousands of errors that result in such blue-screen dialogue. It displays the problem and error code on the screen so make sure you have your error code or brief description.
The following are the most common blue screen errors with their step-by-step fixes:-
1. CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED (0x000000EF)
CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED occurs when the process which is critical or important to the system suddenly stops or gets terminated and if that process cannot run properly, your Operating System would cause some trouble. It can occur due to Random Access Memory issues, compatibility problems, etc.
Following is the solution to fix the error:
Restart the computer in safe mode.
Step 1:- Press Shift + F8 before Windows 10 starts loading which will redirect you to recovery mode, then you can boot into Safe Mode.
Step 2:- Go to Advanced Boot Options, and set boot mode as Safe Mode to boot your computer in safe mode.
2. SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x1000007E or 0x0000007E)
It occurs when the handler did not catch the system thread-generated exception. It is also caused by system incompatibility, memory conflicts, etc.
Following is the solution to fix the error:
Step 1: Enter Safe Mode.
Step 2: Perform memory diagnosis.
- Press the "Windows + R" keys and type "mdsched.exe" in to run box.
- After the Windows Memory Diagnostic program pops up, select "Restart now and check for problems".
- Wait until the computer finishes memory diagnosis. This process will usually take a few minutes.
Step 3: Check the result in Event Viewer.
3. IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (0x0000000A)
It occurs when Interruption ReQuest Line (IRQL) that PCs use to signal events in urgent need of attention or response. An attempt to access an address outside (greater than) that boundary value of the upper bound address for processes by memory allocations. It occurs due to a graphics driver's issue.
Following is the solution to fix the error:
If you have recently updated a driver, try installing it on its previous version. You can do this by opening the Device Manager, right-clicking on the device in question, selecting Properties, navigating to the Driver tab, and hitting the “Roll Back Driver” button. If the button is gray, you have to do it manually.
